Owing to the collections more andmore profitable, to the foundations of perpetual masses, particularly numerous in the 1480-1510 period, the rouennais churchwardens have substantial financial resources that they use in a vast programme of reconstruction of the places of worship, some purchases of somptuous vestments and some interest loans. Playing so a not insignificant part in the economy of the town, they are recruited from amogn the greatest families, who consolidate their prestige and their influence by a luxurious piety for the profit of their parish.
